A journey of continual progression

A relationship with God is one that will never get mundane. Each new day brings new mercies, a new way to love and new lessons. What I have observed is that God is always in a bid to make us better, be it as individuals or even as a part of our communities. The thing we don't understand about the nature of God most of the time is that, even when we do the very thing He is trying to work out in us, He will show us the right way and continue on working on that issue.

I find very much inspiration in the life of Peter. Jesus said of Peter that he was the solid rock that He was going to build His church upon. And looking at the character of Peter, he struggled with most of the issues we have as contemporary Christians. He doubted, even after he had taken bold leaps of faith, “28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Matthew 14:28-30. Jesus didn't condemn him or write him off, but he simply said to him “31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”Matthew 14:31. We see even this continual progression when Jesus tells Peter that he would deny Him 3 times before the cock crowed. Peter did it regardless of telling Jesus that he would never do so. But even in spite of this, God didn't forsake him. We see Peter later in the word receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit and going on to do mighty acts to progress the kingdom of God through the power of the Holy Spirit.

The problem that we have developed is that we don't see our relationship with God as one of continual progression and growth. The thing is, we don't learn everything we need to know after one encounter, but God gradually builds us up in faith. I have been one of those however that had mastered the facade of having already figured everything out and having achieved peak growth and maturity. The thing is, it's a continual process God brings us through. He grows us day after day and brings us closer to Him. We never stop needing Him to point out things in us that offend Him because human perfection is a myth. Yes we might get to place where we can be really close to Him and spiritually mature, but our need for constant growth and increased intimacy with Him will never cease. With a new stage of intimacy, comes a growth in your own spiritual life
